Avipox Virus Spot Illustration
Description:
This digital spot illustration shows a simplified, cut-through diagram of an Avipox Virus, which includes a group of large, enveloped DNA viruses that cause Avian Pox. The major features of the virus - protein-covered envelope, lipid-covered cell membrane, intracellular and extracellular space, nuclear membrane and genetic material - are illustrated in contrasting colors for clarity. I used microscope images of Avipox viruses and other artists’ renderings of enveloped viruses to develop this illustration.
I made this illustration for an interpretive panel, which was part of a project I did for the City of Novato. Click here to see the full composition.
